New Bryan Ferry & Huey Lewis

I have just added 3 new songs into high rotation in the playlist from the following newly released classic rock albums:

Bryan Ferry - Live At the Royal Albert Hall 1974
Bryan Ferry – Live At the Royal Albert Hall 1974

Bryan Ferry – Live At the Royal Albert Hall 1974 … This album captures a live concert from the Roxy Music lead vocalist’s first solo tour in 1974. Given how old the session is – the recording is of excellent quality and the musicianship and performance are second to none. Listen for the tracks A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall and a cover the of The Rolling Stone‘s song Sympathy For the Devil. Read the review here.

Huey Lewis & The News – Weather … This album has only 7 tracks on it – but it is a refreshing charge of power pop from a band that released their first album 40 years ago. With the recent news of Huey Lewis’s throat/voice troubles – this could quite possibly be the bands last hurrah. Listen for the song Hurry Back Baby. Read the review here.

New Stone Temple Pilots, Gary Moore & More!

The period after the New Year is a desert for new music releases, but finally the new music is starting to come. I have just added 12 new songs into high rotation in the playlist. Eight of the songs are from the following newly released classic rock albums:

Stone Temple Pilots - Perdida
Stone Temple Pilots – Perdida

Stone Temple Pilots – Perdida … This is the second album since the death in 2015 of original lead vocalist Scott Weiland. The album finds the band trending in a bit of a folk direction, but make no mistake – with vocalist Jeff Gutt they are more than able to get to where they have always set their eyes to – producing gut-wrenching and soul-piercing songs. Listen for the songs Fare Thee Well and She’s My Queen. Read the review here.

Gary Moore – Live From London … This record captures the ex-Thin Lizzy guitar player at the top of his game in a small club performance at London’s Islington Academy on December 2nd, 2009. The show was apparently a one-shot deal, putting one of the world’s finest blues/rock guitarists in front of a nightclub crowd, letting him work his magic, and recording the whole thing. If you like scorching blues guitar played impeccably – this album will be magic. Listen for the tracks Since I Met You Baby, Oh, Pretty Woman and Still Got The Blues. Read the review here.

Magnum – The Serpent Rings … Twenty-one albums into their career, this band, led by Tony Clarkin, is still going strong. This record finds them leaning a little bit heavier, but the results are beautiful produced, well-written and a treat to listen to. Listen for the tracks Where Are You Eden and The Last One On Earth. Read the review here.

Deep Purple – Live In Rome 2013 … This album features a recording from the Now What?! Tour of 2013, when Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Don Airey celebrated their first album after the passing of former bandmate Jon Lord. The band is sizzling and and as powerful as ever. Listen for an 8 minute version of the song Hush. Read the review here.

Frank Zappa – Hot Rats Sessions … This box set celebrates the 50th anniversary of the universally-respected guitar player’s first official solo record. The set has the original songs from the album bundled with outtakes, extended versions and alternate versions. It is a joy! Listen for an alternate version of Arabesque, which features a guitar overdub mix. Read the review here.
