New Doors, Foreigner, Hootie & More!

I have just added 24 new songs into high rotation in the playlist. Eighteen of the songs are from the following eleven newly released classic rock albums:

The Doors - The Soft Parade (50th Anniversary Edition)
The Doors – The Soft Parade (50th Anniversary Edition)

The Doors – The Soft Parade (50th Anniversary Edition) … The original album, now 50 years old, was always the most controversial of Doors albums. This 3 disc box set answers the question “What would the album sound like if it wasn’t ‘enhanced’ with all the horns and strings?” Several of the tracks on the second disc in this set have had the extras stripped away. Listen for the The Doors Only mixes of the songs Runnin’ Blue and Touch Me. Note: Doors guitar player Robbie Krieger overdubbed extra guitar solos on these tracks – just for this release. Read the review here.

Foreigner – Double Vision: Then and Now … This recording of a 2017 concert at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, celebrates 40 years of the band, features a lineup of former and current members of Foreigner performing an assortment of their greatest hits. Listen for live versions of the songs Double Vision and Hot Blooded. Read the review here.

Steve Miller Band – Welcome To The Vault … This 3 disc box set completely eschews the band’s many hit recordings that powered their career and instead gives us alternate versions, demos, and rare live tracks – 38 of which have not previously been released. A fan’s delight! Listen for the songs Fly Like An Eagle (Alternate Version), Rock’n Me (Alternate Version 1), Swingtown (Alternate Version) and Take The Money and Run (Live/Alternate Version). Read the review here.

Hootie & The Blowfish – Imperfect Circle … This popular band from the 1990s broke up in 2008 but reunited in 2018, recently releasing this new album. Listen for the track Hold On. Read the review here.

David Bowie – Conversation Piece … this five CD box is essentially a superdeluxe Space Oddity special, featuring a total of seventy-five tracks. The material comes from Spying Through A Keyhole, Clareville Grove Demos and The ‘Mercury’ Demos, but also includes a 2009 remaster of the Space Oddity album, a brand new 2019 Tony Visconti remix of the album, twelve previously unreleased additional demos, John Peel’s Top Gear and The Dave Lee Travis Show sessions and a 120 page book. Probably for hard core Bowie fans only – but the Tony Visconti remix sounds glorious. Listen for the song Space Oddity (2019 Remix). Read the review here.

Ronnie Lane with His Live Five – Mad Lad: A Live Tribute To Chuck Berry … This album is the Rolling Stone guitarist’s tribute to Chuck Berry, recorded live in 2018 in England. Listen for the song Rock n’ Roll Music, which features Imelda May on vocals. Read the review here.

John Fogerty – 50 Year Trip: Live At Red Rocks … The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman celebrates 50 years with this live release recorded at Red Rocks. Listen for the track Fortunate Son. Read the review here.

The Ides of March – Play OnJim Peterik was the main man for the band (remember the song Vehicle?). After the band broke up he went on to success with the band Survivor. For this new album, he reunited with the original members of The Ides Of March, added a horn section and brought in some special guests. Listen for the songs Play On and Rule Of Three. Read the review here.

Jack Tempchin – One More Time With FeelingTempchin is a universally celebrated songwriter (writing or co-writing some of The Eagles best known songs). This new album features 10 well-written songs, performed with top notch playing. Listen for the track Back To The Old Me. Read the review here.

Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders – Get The Money … For his third record – and first is nearly a decade – the Foo Fighters‘ drummer reunited his solo band. This album features an exciting lineup of guest artists, including Roger Taylor (Queen), Duff McKagen (Guns N’ Roses), Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Joe Walsh as well as Pat Smear and Dave Grohl – (the other guys from The Foo Fighters). Listen for the title track Get The Money. Read the review here.
