John Mayall, known as “the father of the English blues” is still getting it done. He released an excellent new album this past week called Talk About That, with two of the tracks featuring a guest appearance by Joe Walsh (of The Eagles) on guitar.
I have added 4 tracks from the album into high rotation – including both the tracks featuring Joe Walsh. Listen for It’s Hard Going Up, The Devil Must Be Laughing, Cards On The Table and Blue Midnight.

It’s been very quiet on the new classic rock release front – so I have been programming the music playlist and waiting for some new classic rock releases to drop.
Lo and behold – I was browsing around last week and found a classic rock release that came out this past September from the early 70s band Cactus.Cactus recorded and released 4 albums in the short 2 years they were together – and with the hard rock sound they had were sometimes called the “American Led Zeppelin”.
Their latest album is called Black Dawn and features two of the founding members (Carmine Appice and Jim McCarty). Listen for the track Dynamite!
Choice Classic Rock – classic rock like you’ve never heard it before!
I have just added 2 new tracks into high rotation from the latest release from Neil Young. The album is called Peace Trail, and its content tackles the controversial topics of today – including The Dakota Access Pipeline and corporate greed. With a more stripped-down acoustic sound featuring bassist Paul Bushnell and drummer Jim Keltner it is a worthy listen from a man in his sixth decade or producing music. Listen for the tracks Indian Givers and Peace Trail.
On another note – there may be intermittent interruptions in the Choice Classic Rock streaming service for the next little while. The company I have contracted with that provide this service is battling an overload on their servers. This is restricting the information that usually flows with each track (the Artist and Song Title) – and may result in a the odd drop-out of the stream. Please know that I have made them aware of this and they are doing all they can to correct the issue.
Thanks for listening – and here’s to a great Classic Rockin’ 2017!
Choice Classic Rock – classic rock like you’ve never heard it before!
The Rolling Stones have very recently released Blue & Lonesome – where they have gone into the studio and covered an album’s worth of Blues standards. It is a return to the Stones origins – but with a more matured sound. I have added a few songs from the album into high rotation. Listen for Commit A Crime, Hate To See You Go, I Can’t Quit You Baby, I Gotta Go, Just Like I Treat You and Ride ‘Em Down.
I also added a new track into high rotation from the latest album from Robbie Robertson (of The Band). The album is called Testimony and is a snapshot of his career with The Band, Ronnie Hawkins,Bob Dylan and solo. Listen for the title track to the album – Testimony.
Also new into high rotation is a track from the latest release from Queen. The album is called On Air and the track is a fast version of their song We Will Rock You, which was recorded October 28th, 1977 for the BBC. I think you will agree it is a very interesting early interpretation of the song!
And lastly – I just want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season. To celebrate – I have added some classic rock artists doing select Christmas songs into the rotation. Enjoy the season!

I have added new tracks into high rotation in the playlist from Sting and from Rossington.
The new Sting album is called 57th & 9th and is a welcome return to a more rockin’ sound. Listen for the tracks One Fine Day and I Can’t Stop Thinking About You.
I have also added 4 tracks into high rotation from an album called Take It On Faith by Rossington. Rossington is none other than Garry Rossington (of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame) – teamed up with his wife Dale Krantz-Rossington. In a word, this album is “superb” – featuring Rossington‘s fine guitar work and Krantz-Rossington‘s smoky vocals. It even features a guest appearance by Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top). Listen for the tracks Good Side Of Good, Highway Of Love, Two Very Different Things and Too Many Rainy Days.

I have just added 5 newly-released classic rock tracks into high rotation in the playlist.
Listen for the track This House Is Not For Sale from the same-titled album from Bon Jovi. This is the first Bon Jovi album that does not have any song-writing contributions from the recently-departed Richie Sambora. I will let you decide whether the band is missing Sambora or not, but the album has received mixed reviews.
I also added 2 new tracks into high rotation from Ian Hunter & The Rant Band. Ian Hunter was a long-time member of the seventies Glam Rock band – Mott the Hoople. His latest release is called Fingers Crossed and is getting universally rave reviews. Listen for the track Ghosts as well as a tribute track to David Bowie called Dandy. When Mott the Hoople was struggling to be heard, Bowie not only gave them the title song for the album All The Young Dudes, but produced the record as well … kicking the band into high gear.
Santana also have released a new DVD/Blue Ray called Live At the House of Blue Las Vegas. Listen for the track No One To Depend On from this release.
Lastly – listen for the track The Wind Of Heaven from Moody Blues alumni Justin Hayward‘s compilation album called All The Way. The album features some of Hayward‘s best known solo tracks, some live performances, solo interpretations of Moody Blues songs, as well as the newly recorded track The Wind Of Heaven.

I have just added a schwack (is that a word?) of new tracks into high rotation – all from newly released CDs from Classic Rock Artists.
First, listen for the track Just Your Fool, which is the first single from the forthcoming new release from The Rolling Stones called Blue & Lonesome. The album is due for release on December 2 – and is an entire project of reworked blues standards.
Next, I have added 2 new tracks from the latest album from The Pretenders, which is called Alone. Chrissie Hynde is in fine form, and the album is produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
I have also added a new track from David Crosby‘s just-released solo offering which is called Lighthouse. It is beautifully rendered album of acoustic material. Listen for the track Things We Do For Love.
If you are a fan of the Grateful Dead, two new releases may catch your eye. The first is called Dear Jerry: Celebrating the Music Of Jerry Garcia – which is a live recording from May of 2015 featuring numerous artists (including the remaining members of the Grateful Dead) celebrating the life and music of Jerry Garcia in song. Listen for Peter Frampton doing a scorching cover of the song (I’m A) Roadrunner. Dead fans will also enjoy the track I just added into high rotation called Lay My Lily Down – from Bob Weir‘s latest solo outing which is called Blue Mountain.
Lastly, I have added a track from the original soundtrack of the Lazurus musical, which is based on the works of David Bowie. The soundtrack features 3 never-before-released songs recorded by Bowie before his death. Listen for the track No Plan, which features a beautiful sax solo near the end.
Choice Classic Rock – classic rock like you’ve never heard it before!
I have added 5 tracks into high rotation from 3 brand new classic rock releases – from Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and Timothy B. Schmit (of The Eagles).
First off, from Eric Clapton‘s new album called Live In San Diego, I have added the songs Crossroads and Got To Get Better In A Little While. Crossroads features Robert Cray guesting on guitar and vocals. Got To Get Better In A Little While is an extended version of the track that originally appeared on Derek & The Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. The track features Derek Trucks on slide guitar. The album itself was recorded in 1997. I highly recommend it!
Next, I have added into high rotation the songs Every Time I See A River and Going Down To Bangor from Van Morrison‘s latest album which is called Keep Me Singing. This is his 37th album – and his professionalism and soul shine throughout the 13 tracks!
Last – we have added a track called Red Dirt Road by Timothy B. Schmit (of The Eagles) from his latest album which is called Leap Of Faith.
